Thanks to Drums4Fun I got Silk Degress in the mail the other day. Talk about simple and sweet! The recording technique back in the late 70's was straight forward and you really hear all of Jeff's hat work in pure form. I want to know what hats he was playing on that recording. I have an idea, but am not certain. He changed kits and set-ups alot in the early days. The feel on this CD is absolutely great. This is what I mean as the X factor technique. WHile he was doing all these early sessions at about 23-25 years old, there were guys in music schools, colleges all working on their "stuff". Jeff was working for his feel and musical creativity. He made those Boz tunes original and his parts made such musical sense. The first three songs on Silk Degrees demonstrate Jeff's ability to lay back in the pocket, lay on top of it, and then push it. All the qualities of a great drummer--song oriented.
